WILLIAM J. SWITAJ SR., (age 90), amember of the "Greatest Generation," passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2017. A USMC veteran, Bill served in WW II from 1944-1947. He became the first college graduate in his family, graduating from John Carroll University in 1951. Worked at Price Waterhouse and was Past President of the Cleveland Chapter of the National Association of Accountants. He left in 1958 to join Cleveland Cliffs and in 1962 was transferred to Montreal and subsequently Sept. Isles., Quebec where he started his love affair with hockey, fishing and hunting. Bill moved back to Cleveland in 1967 and settled in Bay Village, Ohio where he lived until his death. In addition to his success in the workplace, Bill was instrumental in the development of youth hockey in Clevelandand the St. Edward High School Hockey Program. He was an avid gardener and woodworker, is in the Blood Donor Hall of Fame, and was Past President of the Woods and Waters Club. Most importantly he was a man of deep faith, heavily involved in St. Raphael Parish and highlighted by the Bishop Award for his (and wife Lillian's) work at the Bishop Cosgrove Homeless Shelter in Cleveland. Bill is survived by his wife and best friend of 61 years, Lillian (nee Kapel), Dear father of Gregory(Sheryl), Mark (Kathleen), William Jr. (Sabrina) and Stephen. Loving grandfather of Paul, Sarah, Caryn, Marc, Christine, Bethany, Derek, Gabriella, Matthew and Lynn; and great-grandfather of seven. Brother of Dorothy Rochy (deceased) and brother-in-law of Mary Budic(deceased). Funeral Mass Saturday, April 22 at St. Raphael Church(525 Dover Center Rd., Bay Village, 44140) at 9:30 am. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery. FRIENDS MAY CALL IN THE McGORRAY-HANNA FUNERAL HOME of WESTLAKE, 25620 CENTER RIDGE RD.(west of Columbia) FRIDAY 3-7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Raphael School Fund, 525 Dover Center Rd., Bay Village, OH 44140.
