STEVE J. JANKOWSKI age 84, beloved husband of 52 years to Pat (nee Jaffrin); loving father of William, Therese Lattimore (Robert) and Christine De Pasquale (John); dear grandpa of Kelsey, Shelby, Alex and Grace; Meckenzie, Christopher and Jay; brother of the late John, Alex, Walter, Helen Huzvar, Phyllis Yurick and Casimer. Steve was an outstanding baseball player and all-around athlete, Jankowski spent nearly 10 years in the Cleveland Indians farm system as a player and a player-coach. Among his teammates were Sparky Anderson and the late Roger Maris. He excelled as an infielder in slow-pitch from 1962 through 1973. He was an All-City selection by The Plain Dealer in 1967, 1968, 1969 and 1971, and competed in national tournaments in 1967 and 1969. Among his prominent teams were Sheffield Bronze, Non Ferrous and Pyramid Café. A great lover of animals, the house was home to many a stray cat or dog. Steve loved his dogs and could be seen driving around Seven Hills in his station wagon, with the windows down and little black noses enjoying the fresh air. Passed away, Sunday, April 9, 2017. Funeral Mass Holy Trinity Church (33601 Detroit Rd., Avon), Wednesday, April 12th at 10:00 am. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the McGORRAY-HANNA FUNERAL HOME OF WESTLAKE, 25620 Center Ridge Rd., (West of Columbia Rd.) TUESDAY from 4 – 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested to the Alzheimer's Association of Cleveland, P.O. Box 74924, Cleveland, OH. 44194-1007.
