Mother of three, teacher, Irish-American

Raised in Newport, Ireland (County Mayo), Eileen moved to the United States at the age of 17 with her family. She attended Ursuline College and received her bachelor's degree in French education. She married Leonard Roache in 1962. Leonard, who worked in printing sales for Hubb Co., passed away in 1975.
Eileen found her devotion and true calling in teaching. She taught at St. Brendan School in North Olmsted, Ohio, before moving to Magnificat High School in Rocky River, Ohio, in 1985. She taught French and was the head of the Modern Language department at Magnificat for many years. Even after retirement, Eileen continued to display her love of teaching by tutoring individual students in French up until days before her death.
Eileen is also well known for her pride in and closeness with Cleveland's Irish-Catholic community. She and her family were among the founding families of St. Brendan Parish, and she was actively involved in the church throughout much of her lifetime. She enjoyed celebrating her Irish heritage and often shared details of her homeland with others.
Eileen had many interests. She was a world traveler, a regular patron of the theater, and an avid gardener. She was also an active member of Les Bavardes and La Maison Francaise, two Cleveland French clubs. Her favorite activities, however, included weekly phone conversations with her daughters and grandchildren, and the company of her friends and family. Her warmth, generosity and loyalty knew no bounds.
Eileen is survived by her two daughters, Eileen (Christopher) Casey of Lake Forest, IL, and Karen (Todd) Dixon of Trinidad, CA; grandchildren Molly, Charlie, and Finn Casey; Jack, Max, and Leo Dixon, and Shane Roache; her sister in Ireland: Sister Veronica, O.P.,(Peggie), and brother Jerry McShane (Pompano Beach, FL). Eileen's son, Brian Roache (Lehigh Acres, FL) passed away in 2010.
Visitation will be at McGorray-Hanna Funeral Home, 25620 Center Ridge Road Westlake, Ohio, on Sunday, March 26th from 2:00-5:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at St. Brendan Church, 4242 Brendan Lane North Olmsted, Ohio, on Monday, March 27th at 10:00 a.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Cleveland Sight Center or Magnificat High School.
