December 26, 1933–February 14, 2017 (age 83)
Avon, OH (formerly of Westlake, OH)

Our beloved Wally passed gracefully on February 14th in his Avon home surrounded by the love of family and supported by the kindness of his many dear friends. A 1953 graduate of Saint Ignatius High School, Wally went on to study business at John Carroll University and graphic arts at Fenn College. During these years, he played football, ran track, and played drums in his high school band. After college, he enjoyed a successful, lifelong career in printing and the graphic arts and is a charter member of the Greater Cleveland Graphic Arts Hall of Distinction.

Wally also was known for his avid skills with a club on the golf course, a knife and fork at the dining table, and a joke or story for every occasion. He is a past president of Avon Oaks Country Club. Inspired by the big-band singing of his mother, Wally's beautiful tenor voice stirred the hearts of all who heard it. He shared his voice with many as a 45-year member of the Hermit Club and singer in many other choirs, ensembles, and quartets, often singing solo at weddings and funerals for family and friends.

Wally devoted many hours to numerous charitable organizations in the Cleveland area, routinely donating printing services, serving on committees, and organizing fund-raising events. He is past president of Magnificat High School Fathers' Club. A long-time member of St. Bernadette parish, Wally coached several St. B's football teams and for 40+ years served as a Eucharistic minister and usher at Sunday Mass.

Wally is now joined in paradise with his parents, Mary Jane Votteler (deceased) and George H. Votteler (deceased) and his cherished daughter Amy Therese Votteler (deceased). He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Judy (Sords) Votteler; half-sister Kathy Chabot (Chris); thankful children Thom (Eileen), Jane Byrnes (Dan), and Julie Votteler. He was beloved grandfather to Oliver (Sunhwa) and Colin Votteler, Jordan and Marissa Busch, and proud great-grandfather to Owen Votteler. Wally will be remembered as a devoted brother-in-law to Mary Fielding (Joseph, deceased) and Jim Mayer (Barb, deceased) and as a sharp-witted uncle to Christopher Fielding (Jackie), Daniel Fielding (Lynn), Michael "Finn" Fielding (Beth), Kathleen (Mayer) Thrush (Jason), Kevin Mayer (Melissa), and an endearing great-uncle to their children. Throughout Wally's life, family was always a priority.

Services are entrusted to THE McGORRAY-HANNA FUNERAL HOME OF WESTLAKE, 25620 Center Ridge Road (WEST OF COLUMBIA), with friends received on Sunday, February 19, 1 PM¬–6 PM. A Funeral Mass celebrating Wally's life will be held at St. Bernadette Parish, 2256 Clague Road, Westlake, Ohio, on Monday, February 20, at 10 AM with burial services to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Avon, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated to Saint Ignatius High School, 1911 West 30th St. Cleveland, Ohio 44113 (216) 651-0222 (; St. Bernadette Church, 2256 Clague Road, Westlake Ohio 44145 (440) 734-1300; Hospice of the Western Reserve, 2173 North Ridge Road East, Suite H, Lorain, OH, 44055, (440) 787-2080 (; or a charitable organization of your choosing.
